Our 'Origin Story'
“Harnessing the power of professional film to promote positivity and wellbeing to young adults”.
Underdog Crew Studios is a filmmaking and creative arts studio based in Essex, with a mission to harness the power of professional film to promote positivity and wellbeing to young adults. Our studio is supported by MultiAward Winning Actors, Directors, and Industry figures who are dedicated to supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those with lived experience of mental health issues, those facing poverty and homelessness, and young carers.
Our work at Underdog Crew Studios includes empowering at-risk and marginalized young adults and local communities from Essex by fostering inclusivity, self-worth, and ambition in a safe space. We aim to nurture aspiring actors and students with hands-on free technical and employability skills training led by practicing young industry professionals, leveraging our connections with titans of industry and local educational links.
The way we work. With young people delivering free film education, skills and employment training and paid work placements. Our trainees develop self-confidence, acquire industry CVs and showreels, track their journey with Personal Development Plans and gain AQA accreditations in technical craft skills and employability skills, earning their way at National Living Wage in the industry as runners, location marshals, assistant camera operators and production assistants.
We work with a wide range of talented young adults aged 18 – 25+ from under-represented groups who are passionate about starting a career in the film and TV sector. We wedge open the door of opportunity for them with our free film courses, led by dedicated industry professionals who share their up-to-date expertise.
The media workshop also provides a safe space for valuable socialising and friendship groups for like-minded individuals. Personal development is supported by experienced key workers specialising in youth and mental wellbeing.
Staff & Volunteers
Our Staff and Volunteers are the heartbeat of Underdog Crew Studios. From production to community outreach, their dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit bring our projects to life and drive our mission forward every day.
