Where It Began!
To support them having a voice to decrease stigma and discrimination in the creative workplace.
Underdog Crew Studios has been 15 years in the making, but only became a reality in the last two years—thanks to the belief, support, and generosity of our community. Officially established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in December 2022, the studio is a sanctuary for marginalized and at-risk young adults, using creativity as a tool for empowerment.
Founded by DB (Dom) Morgan, an award-winning filmmaker and autistic mental health survivor, the journey began in 2009, welcoming neurodivergent individuals onto his film sets. His MTV award-winning short film, "Subject 3" (2010) proved that everyone has something to offer in a creative space. Now, Underdog Crew Studios is a not-for-profit organization working with youth groups across Colchester, offering a sensory-friendly, judgment-free space where young people can thrive.
Dom’s personal struggles—mental health battles, addiction recovery, and the devastating loss of his daughter, Jodi—shaped the studio’s mission: to create a space where underdogs find purpose, strength, and belonging. Alongside his wife Laura and a passionate team, Dom has built something beyond filmmaking—a legacy of inclusion and resilience.
At Underdog Crew Studios, every story matters. Every voice deserves to be heard. And together, we rise. Join the movement. Be an Underdog.

This milestone marked the beginning of a structured, long-term vision to provide creative opportunities and safe spaces for neurodivergent and disadvantaged individuals.

Underdog Crew Studios secured a £10,000 Arts and Cultural Grant, recognizing the impact of our work in using creative arts to engage young people. This funding allowed us to run specialized workshops, provide equipment, and expand our reach within the Colchester community.

With the backing of Community 360, we received a £50,000 grant to develop programs that support young adults struggling with mental health and social isolation. This funding strengthened our partnerships with local organizations and expanded our ability to offer safe, engaging environments for creative expression.

Mobility was a major barrier for many of our participants. Thanks to the National Lottery, we secured £10,000 to purchase a studio minibus, allowing us to transport young people to workshops, filming locations, and creative retreats, ensuring no one is left behind due to lack of access.

Through the ACT grant, we received £9,000 to support initiatives that empower young people through storytelling, filmmaking, and the arts. This funding contributed to expanding our mentorship programs and providing additional creative resources.

A huge milestone for Underdog Crew Studios—we officially moved into our dedicated studio space in Colne Valley. Designed to be a sensory-friendly, welcoming environment, the studio offers earthy, neutral tones, dimmed creative spaces, and a safe haven for those who struggle in traditional settings.

Building on our belief that creativity thrives in the right environment, we launched Wilderness Retreats—offering young people the chance to escape urban stress and connect with nature, creativity, and self-discovery. These retreats provide a holistic approach to mental well-being, storytelling, and personal growth.
